Burnout: The Real Deal
Burnout shows up in different ways for different women. You might experience it as a general lack of energy, motivation or creativity that creeps up over time. Or it might show up in a way that forces you to pay attention, like an unexplained illness or a moment of panic as you sit frozen in your car, unable to fathom trudging through another day at your 9-5.I know burnout is real because I struggled with it for far too long. For years I was plugging away at corporate, putting in countless hours, and giving it my all. There was a part of me that loved serving the people I worked with; there was also another part of me that realized the lack of freedom and autonomy at my job was crushing my spirit. It was difficult to admit that the career I’d worked so hard for was literally sabotaging my joy and chipping away at any enthusiasm I had left.
Making A Change
Who was I kidding? I didn’t want to be an employee; I wanted to run my own show. I knew it was time to dive into the coaching business that had been my side hustle for so long, and once I was no longer willing to sacrifice my happiness for my ever increasing pension plan, I left corporate and never looked back!
Over the years, I’ve worked with so many women who are struggling with burnout, just as I once did. They are overextended at home and at work. They realize they’re no longer fulfilled in their careers, but are afraid to jump into entrepreneurship, even though deep down they know it could change everything.
When one door of happiness closes, another one opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. ~Helen Keller
Are you ready to switch things up?
I know change is scary, and you’re probably thinking to yourself, easier said than done. I get it…I’ve been there. But if any of this speaks to you, you know you were meant for more, and I encourage you to write down your answers to the following questions:
- What drives you?
- What are your expectations of yourself?
- What are your priorities in life?
- What do you need from those around you?
- If you took one small step toward your goals each day, how would your life be different 3 months from now?
I’d love to hear from you! As you reflect on your answers, in the comments, tell me what comes up for you. Do you feel motivated to see what you can accomplish? With a plan in place and the support to implement it, you can banish burnout and boost your current side hustle (or build the one you’ve been dreaming about.)
My mission in life is not merely to survive’ but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. ~Maya Angelou
